The legal term for the type of personal data that means an individual can be identified. There is much complexity in the interpretation of what both ‘personal’ and ‘identifiable’ mean, such that some regulators have taken a view that this includes cookies and IP addresses, while others have argued that PII can only exist if there is a ‘real world’ identifier.
